  1. System Requirements
    Windows 2000, XP
    Internet Explorer 6.0 or later
    One or more video codecs must be installed
    Note: A Microsoft codec can be downloaded from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324290 and installed by running the downloaded executable
    One or more video files in AVI format must be stored in some directory
    Standard PC Hardware: Pentium 4 processor or higher and 1 Gigabyte of Main Memory

  2. Installation of the ADC2-MPEG-4 plug-in
    - Press "Download" HERE to install this software that has been certified for security by Verisign
    - Press "Yes" on the Verisign panel
    - The word "Done" will appear at the left end of the lower toolbar in your computer screen
    - Close the installation window and notice that the icon ADC2 Convert has been added to your set of icons in your screen.
    - From now on, just left double click this icon to launch this application

  3. Operation
    1. Press "File" on the ADC2 Convert window. You have 4 choices
        a.) MPEG Compress
        b.) MPEG Decompress
        c.) MPEG-ADC2 Compress
        d.) MPEG-ADC2 Decompress

    2. Press "MPEG Compress" and select a video file to compress with with any standard MPEG codec. A window appears that enables you to look for an AVI file in the directories of your computer. Select the desired file and press "Open"

    3. Select the codec you want to use. A compression panel will appear after opening the file to be compressed showing the different video codecs installed on your computer. Select one of them and then press "Configure" to set the desired level of compression for the chosen codec. Then press "OK".

    4. Indicate where to save the compressed video file. A window with the legend "Save MPEG-compressed File" will appear to indicate a desired directory for the compressed file. Type a filename and press "Save".

    5. The window on the screen will show the progress of the compression and the initial and final file sizes. Please wait until the word "Done" appears on the screen.

    6. For decompression, press "MPEG-Decompress". Then select the file to decompress from its directory and press "Open".

    7. The video compression panel will appear. Select the "Full Frames(Uncompressed)" option and press "OK".

    8. On the window on the screen, select the directory and type the filename  for the decompressed file. Then press "Save".

    9. The window on the screen will show the progress of the decompression and the initial and final filesizes. Please wait until the word "Done" appears on the screen.

    10. Press "Play" to view the decompressed video.

    11. In order to compare the above standard compression with the superior compression obtained with the ADC2 plug-in, press "MPEG-ADC2 Compress" and follow the same steps as for "MPEG Compress". There will be some initial processing before the compression panel appears. It should be configured as before with the same MPEG-4 codec. Again, wait until the word "Done" appears on the screen for both compression and decompression. Then compare the compressed file sizes produced by "MPEG Compress" and "MPEG-ADC2 Compress".

    12. In order to compare the quality of both videos after decompression, press "MPEG-ADC2 Decompress" and follow the same procedure as for "MPEG Decompress".

    13. Play both decompressed AVI files and analyze their quality. The qualities will be the same but the MPEG-ADC2 Compress function results in a file about 1/3 the size of the file produced by the MPEG-Compress function.
